Past sessions

In 1991 Governor Waihe'e said about the state's budget, "We are all in for diet and exercise." The lawmakers then passed Waihe'e's dream projects and funded operating budgets for them. Remember the Aloha Stadium Gran Prix plan? The Mānoa Information Center was another attempt at high tech industry after the failure of the Mililani Technological Park. And who ean forget the mueh publicized controversy over the capitol's temporary koa benches? Our elected officials approved these money drains and cut UH programs. Are they going to repeat history in 2000? Despite their promises, little has been done to cut their own legislative budget and expenses. Must we continue to sacrifice while politicians spend our money? Look at UH Mānoa. Low student and teacher morale rots the campus while shiny new buildings stand empty. It's ironic that we must suffer while politicians don't.
