BOA supports IDA

Bank of America Mortgage has eommitted $150,000 to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for the innovative Individual Development Account (IDA) program, a federally supported effort that empowers communities by helping individuals to save. Account Executive Winona Kauhane explained that BOA is eager to help with Hawaiian Home Lands mortgages. Its five-year commitment to the program will assist Native Hawaiians in developing the basic skills and behaviors to attain and retain assets. IDAs gained national attention during President Clinton's January State of the Union address. "We should do more to help all working families save and accumulate wealth.

That's the idea behind the IDAs. I ask you to take that idea to a new level, with new retirement savings accounts that enable every low- and moderate-income family in Ameiiea to save for retirement, a first home, medical emergency or a college education. I propose to match their contributions, however small, dollar for dollar, every year they save," President Clinton said.
