Dr. Alu passing

Dr. Patrick Koon Hung Charles Aiu, renown physician to residents of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau, passed away Oct. 28. He was 63. Born andraised in Wailua, Kaua'i, Aiu was the son of Eugene Kahoali'i and Aliee Apana Aiu. A 1957 graduate of Kapa'a High School, Aiu continued his studies at Loyola, Oregon f/Iedical School and UOLA. For more than 30 years, Dr. Aiu was affiliated with the Kaua'i f/Iedical Group, and served as chair of the OB-Gyn

board. Along with John Kruse and Dennis Ohun, Aiu founded Nā Kālai Wa'a o Kaua'i. An avid voyager, Dr. Aiu served as a crew member of the Hōkūle'a. An experienced

waterman, Aiu is ^r' des cribed by his family as a gifted athlete, an accomplished musician, a wood carvar and a great eook. Dr. Aiu is survived by his wife, Vlavis Dew Aiu; children: Pua'alaokalani (OHA policy analyst), Pi'imauna, VIōhala, 'īmaikalani, VIakani and Victoria; brothers Harold, Ernest and Raymond; sistars Oeeilia Wood and Alma Wong; and three mo'opuna.
