Blood quantum

In response to a letter written by Emmett Lee Loy (" Blood Qucintum" April KWO), Lee Loy is right that "Hawaiians were left land destitute," but he goes on to make a distinction between half-bloods to

that of the less than half-blood Hawaiians. In other words, he is promoting discrimination and sides with the haole congressmen who created the Hawaiian Homes Act. That law was put in plaee to discriminate using blood quantum as an issue for one reason only, and that was to further split the Hawaiian nation, pitting one segment of the Hawaiian community against the other. Delegate to the U.S. Congress Prince Kūhiō opposed this decision, but to no avail. A few years earlier, these were some of the same eongressmen who voted for annexation in complicity with the stealing of the Hawaiian nation and 1.8 million acres of crown lands. This act has done more harm than good, and only causes more dissension within the ranks of Hawaiians — and I do mean all Hawaiians. To discriminate within is shameful! Paul D.
