a native hawaiian journal This past summer, 'Ōiwi teamed up with Ka Ho'i Wai, a Teachers in Hawaiian Education cohort based at UH Mānoa's College of Education. Led by Dr. Kerri Ann Hewett, Ka Ho'i Wai is a twoyear program aimed at better addressing the unique needs of Native Hawaiian students within the context of Hawaiian culture, language, and traditions. As part of the partnership, 'Ōiwi editor Ku'ualoha Ho'omanawanui led a course called "Literacy from a Native Hawaiian Perspective," in whieh students were asked to reflect on ideas of 'āina, as well as thoughts of home. The following poems, by students Kauwila Hanchett and Keomailani Case, are just two of the many pieces Ka Ho'i Wai students created over the summer.
