NASA Intends to Announee the Availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Outrigger Telescopes Project The Nahonal Aeronautics and Space Admiitistration (NAS A) intends to amiounee the availability of the Linal Environmental hnpact Statement (EIS) for the Outrigger Telescopes Project in mid-Eebruary 2005. NASA is proposing to fund the Outrigger Telescopes Project at the W.M. Keek Observatory in the Mauna Kea Science Reserve 011 the suimnit of Mauna Kea, the Island of Hawai'i. The Final EIS addresses altemative sites and tlie environmental impacts that could potentially occur with on-site constmction, installation, and operation of four, and possibly up to six, Outrigger Telescopes. The proposed Telescopes would be strategically placed around the existing Keek I and Keek II Telescopes, witltin the current footprint of tlie W.M. Keek Observatory. A reasonable altemative site has been identihed 011 La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. A hard copy of the Final EIS will be available at eaeh library witltin tlie Hawai'i State Riblic Library System and at Regional Libraries.
