butions o Hawai'i water sports and Hawaiian culture at the 21 st Annual Ala Wai Challenge. On Sun., Jan. 29, beginning at 8 a.m., the Ala Wai eanal and park will eome alive with eanoe sprints, Makahiki games, hula,

oli and more. The event is a benefit for the Waikīkī Community Center, and is led this year by honorary chair Keith Vierra and event chair Ralph Goto. Loeal businesses and community groups are invited to sponsor 12-person teams (six to paddle and six to play Makahiki games). The $400 team sponsorship fee includes luneh an event T-shirt for eaeh team member.
