More Native Hawaiian students will be now eligible to receive hnaneial help to attend Chaminade University through new scholarships offered by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. Hawaiian freshmen at Chaminade may apply for the funding that will cover 50 percent of the cost of tuition. Native Hawaiians comprise about 15 percent of Chaminade's overall enrollment. In announcing the Hawaiian Civic Club scholarships, Chaminade officials noted that this added to the school's existing programs serving Hawaiian educational goals. Also available is the university's Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Student Scholarship, open to students living on homestead lands. In addition, Chaminade has received a U.S. Department of Education grant for $750,000 to increase support for Native Hawaiian education needs.
