Nogelmeier to give 'Inspiring' lecture

Hawaiian-language advoeate and Hōkū award-winning songwriter Puakea Nogelmeier will diseuss the art of language at an Art Luneh leeture titled Inspiring Legacy, at noon Jan. 28 at the Hawai'i State Art Museum Multipurpose Room, 250 S. Hotel St. Nogelmeier, whose team did the first English translation of The Epie Ta1e of Hi'iakapoliopele, will diseuss Hi'iaka, Hawaiian literaey and the importanee of Hawaiian newspapers from more than a eentury ago. The tale of Hi'iaka appeared as a daily series in the Hawaiian-language newspaper KaNa'i Aupuni from 1905 to 1906. An assistant professor of Hawaiian language at the University of Hawai'i, Nogelmeier is working on Ho'olaupa'i, a projeet to make Hawaiian-language newspapers from the 19th and 20th eenturies aeeessible online at nupepa.org.
