Native Hawaiion visitor organization garners PR award

The Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association, NaHHA, has received a 2009 nahonal award for its Ola Hawai'i Manual used in cultural leadership training for the visitor industry workforce. NaHHA was selected from more than 1,100 candidates for the prestigious Gold Adrian Award by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, whieh recognizes the best advertising, public relations and web marketing campaigns. The nonproht NaHHA was cofounded in 1997 by renowned Hawaiian author George Kanahele and Kenneth Brown, a Hawaiian leader in business and heahh systems. The organization works with the visitor industry to enhanee respect for Hawaiian culture and traditions. NaHHA is the hrst Hawai'ibased organization to receive the honor. The NaHHA Ola Hawai'i manual is used to instill an understanding of Hawaiian values in the state's tourism employees who are considered the frontline in helping visitors to better understand the importance of Hawai'i's host culture. The manual was designed by Loomis-ISC with paintings by loeal artist Mara Franzmeier. ■
