SHOWING ALOHA FOR OUR KING

King Kamehameha was celebrated across the country in 20 10. Marking the bicentennial year of Kamehameha's unification of the Hawaiian islands under one rule, President Ohama issued a proclamation stating that June 11, 2010, was King Kamehameha Day, calling all Americans to celebrate the rich heritage of Hawai'i.

Honolulu celebrated King Kamehameha on July 1 1 . Adorned with 25-foot lei, it is the second statue of King Kamehameha the Great commissioned by King David Kalākaua. Itstands in front of Ali'iolani Halein Honolulu. The original statue of the King is in Kapa'au, Hawai'i lsland, his birthplace.
