Annual awards dinner to honor 5 educators

Retired U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka will be among the honorees at the fourth annual I Ulu I Ke Kumu Awards and dinner celebration, March 23 at Hālau 'o Haumea at Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies on the University of Hawai'i-Mānoa campus. Also being honored for their extraordinary commitment and excellenee in Native Hawaiian education will be Dr. Richard Kekuni Akana Blaisdell, emeritus professor of medicine at the Department of Native Hawaiian Health at the UH John A. Bums School of Medicine; husband-

and-wife documentarians Eddie and Myma Kamae; and Marvlee Kēhaulani Naukana-Gilding, a retired librarian at Kamakakūokalani. The awards and dinner, whieh begins at 5:30 p.m, raises funds for scholarships for Hawaiian students at UH-Mānoa. Tickets are $65, $520 for a table or $1,200 for a plahnum scholarship table.
