ʻIolani Palaee installing new platform lift

'Iolani Palaee is having a new custom inclined platform lift installed, whieh will make the palaee onee again accessible to people with mobility issues. Replacing an old, inoperable lift, the new lift will be able to make more trips eaeh day and will have a larger carrying capacity to aeeommodate a passenger in a wheelchair or sitting on a fold-away bench seat. A routine maintenance program will improve the lift's reliability. The $265,900 project, scheduled to begin on May 23, is expected to take 180 days to complete. "The need to replace and upgrade this lift is a testament to the heavy usage and the importance of ensuring everyone ean experience the interior of 'Iolani Palaee," said Curt Cottrell, DLNR Division of State Parks administrator. "We are definitely grateful that technology ean provide this access without distracting from the character of this very historic landmark."
