January 29 - Native Hawaiian leaders send President 0bama a letter asking for the expansion of PMNM out to 200 nautical miles (from the current 50 nautical miles). May 26 - The 0ffice of Hawaiian Affairs Board voted to conditionally support the proposed boundary expansion of Papahānaumokuākea Marine Nahonal Monument.

June 15 - Senator Brian Schatz submits proposal to President 0bama for the expansion of PMNM to 582,578 square miles. June - More than 1,500 scientists worldwide, many attending the lnternational Coral Reef Symposium, sign a letter to President 0bama urging him to expand PMNM.

August 24 - Governor lge publicly supports the expansion and the elevation of 0ffice of Hawaiian Affairs as co-Trustee. August 26 - President 0bama signs the proclamation to expand Papahānaumokuākea and starts process to make 0HA a co-trustee.
