On behalf of the County of Hawai'i, Department of Parks and Recreation (P&R), ASM Afliliates is preparing a Cultural Impact Assessment to inform a Hawai'i Revised Statutes Chapter 343 Environmental Assessment being prepared for the proposed Kealakehe Regional Park— a multi-complex facility— located on a portion of land roughly laying between Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway (to the west), Ane Keohokālole Highway (to the east), Kealakehe Parkway (to the north), and Kona Poliee Department parcel (to the south). P&R is currently considering one of two alternative designs. The first design alternative includes the entirety of the 190-acre Tax Map Key (TMK) parcel (3) 7-4-020:007. The second design alternative includes the aforementioned TMK parcel along with an additional roughly 20.1 acres that includes portions (9.4 acres) of the Queen Ka'ahumanu right-of-way (TMK: (3) 7-4-008:999); portions (0.7 acres) of Kealakehe Parkway right-of-way (TMK: (3) 7-4-020:999); and portions of the Kona Poliee Station parcel (TMK (3) 7-4-020:021). A portion of the historic Māmalahoa Trail (also known as the King's Trail, Alanui Aupuni, and Government Road) is located along the project's makai boundary. ASM in search of kama'āina familiar with the area's cultural resources, customs, and practices. We also seek input regarding strategies to prevent or mitigate impacts on culturally valued resources or traditional customary practices.
