A BALL.-Her Britannic Majesty's Acting Commissioner and Mrs. Davies give a ball at the Hawaiian Hotel on Thursday evening the 27th inst., in honor of the accession of His Majesty the King. HOTEL ARRIVALS.—Richard Bickerton, Waialua; J. L. Richardson, Kahuku ; W. B. Hoff, Lieut. Commander on Staff; Mrs. and Miss Hollister, N. Y.; Charles Meyer, Canterbury, N. Z..; Wm. Turnbhull, V. I.; Miss Miller, Makawao. The music of the band in Emma Square on last Saturday afternoon was well attended by carriages, equestrians and pedestrians. We would wish for the sake of the fair portion of the latter class of visitors, that there were seats within the enclosure to enable them to rest whilst listening to the pleasant strains of the band. It is true the soft Bermuda grass affords an easy seat, but yet, although reclining on the sward, may afford a pose for an arcadian picture, the position is hardly sufficiently dignified or wholesome for fair ladies who are not shepherdesses. Seats for the ladies if you please. A chap courting a deep blonde quoted the line: "Sweet Auburn, loveliest of the plain." She got mad. She wasnt't to be put among the plain, even if she was the loveliest of the lot. One of our little boys wanted to know if {illegible} laid eggs as he had heard of {illegible} nests.
